I've fed peas to both Camponotus ligniperda and herculaneus. Both colonies are very small, but they both seemed interested in peas. I don't know whether they like to eat them or drink from them, hopefully when my colonies are larger I will be able to tell how much of it they actually eat.
just cut teh peas in half, probably works better with fresh peas. I'd guess they are drinking but im not sure, they definitely seem to prefer to drink from the pea if this is the case, maybe they gain some nutrition from the juice inside.
i have a colony of 6 workersof ligni. i gave them forstedpeas and they like them...i think they drinkfrom them becasue i found holes in them and a bit "like withno air "
Well my messor barbarus eat them as i see chunks of it missing from peas that i put in and when i open test tube some workers carrying a bit of pea still so those ants use them to store like they do with seeds:P they might drink them to im not sure about that cant really tell
As a fact i don't think they really eat from them. They probably use the juice to drink from and maybe they will cut it in pieces but really eat from them, i don't think so.
