protein jelly? I don't know what you want, but something perfect for feeding is this:

Material: gelatin, honey and water

Take the gelatine and lay it into cold water for some time. 15 to 20 Minutes ... you'll see. Than take it and squeeze the water out. Than put as much (or a little less ... depends on the gelatine and the consistenze you want) honey (or sugar) as water (how much is written on the package) in a jar and boil it. Then fill it into little tubes or what ya want and let it cool down.

Now you have a protein/sugar mix perfect for feeding.

greetings

P.S.: If ya want, you also can put some vitamins/Minerals in ... do it before it get's stiff and when it cooled down a bit. Otherwise you'll destroy the vitamins.

Myrm's Ant Nest has had his own "Ant Jelly" recipe on for some time.

I never had success with it in the past (the ants were never very interested), so I just keep to fresh fruit, fish food flakes, honey/sugar water, and fresh insects :D

Anyway the link is;

And to save you browsing there, I'll paste Myrm's recipe;

Myrms Ant Nest hat geschrieben:Ingredients

1 egg

A good sized dollop of honey (about 3 or 4 table-spoons worth)

1 mulit-vitamin capsule (preferably with minerals too)

1 sachet of gelling agent. (I use "Supercook's Gelatine - which you can get from most supermarkets)

300-500mls of cold water.

How To Make It:

1. Dissolve the gelatine in boiling water, as per the instructions on the packet. (It suggests using 1 cup of boiling water, and to add the gelatine powder to the water, never the other way round!)

2. If using a vitamen capule; open the capsule and squeeze the contents into the hot gelatine mix. If using a solid tablet, crush it first to a powder, then dissolve the powder in the mix.

3. Mix in the dollop of honey

4. Stir until dissolved. It will look like murky water (and stinks!)

5. Leave it to cool (but not set)

6. Break and add the egg (make sure the mixture is cooled before adding the egg, or it will cook!)

7. Pour and mix the mixture into the cold water.

8. Pour the whole lot into a suitable container, and cover with Clingfilm if it does not have a lid

9. Place it into the fridge until set.

10. Feed it to your ants!

11. Taste it for yourself; if you dare!

This can be fed to your ants a couple of times a week. I would recommend removing any that the ants have not eaten after 24-48 hours, as it does go mouldy quickly.

I find that my ants can sometimes be a bit fickle with this; sometimes they go mad for it, other times they turn their noses up at it. I think it depends on how well I have made it and how much honey I have out in. Ants love sugary substances!

be careful how u leave it in your nest, it can melt very quickly, n also seems to 'suck up' ants and drown them, so use only a very very tiny amount in/on somthing that will let them escape if disaster stricks

Hello all,

I have had luck with cat food in the past.

I found this out my leaving my cat's dish on the floor one summer and when I went in there the next day it was FULL of dozens of little ants.

It may depend on species I guess but I had Pogo's that really liked this as well.
